About
Currently, Jess Feury is a textile artist living and working in Berkeley, CA. The daughter of an artist and a mechanic, she learned at a very young age to honor her hands.
Jess makes handwoven clothing, jewelry, and textiles integrating craft traditions old and new to define her style.
In each piece, Jess strives to allow the process to guide her, being open to the magic that can happen when being in the moment. She draws inspiration from antique textiles, outsider and folk art, unorthodox materials, and the world both within and around her.
Jess loved to make art and costumes from an early age. This led to a degree in art education teaching art in the Washington, DC area. Seeing how art allowed some of her students a safe space to express trauma relating to gang and gun violence, Jess realized there must be a better way that she could provide emotional support through art. She then attended a graduate program in Art Therapy from George Washington University and continued to serve low income children and families impacted by the HIV/AIDS virus and community loss in the DC Metro Area before relocating to the west coast where she continued to work in non-profits as an art therapist and grief and loss specialist. After almost 20 years providing space for others, Jess made space for herself by having a child and 5 years later, building a studio in her backyard to begin her business as a full-time artist.
